Known for his rustic genre paintings and landscapes, White attended the Royal Scottish Academy. By 1877, he moved to Devon and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, the Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street and the New Watercolor Society.

Unusual 18th Century Chinese Export Tea Caddy of typical form with Western (probably Dutch) handpainted decoration of "C" scrolls and Ships. Height 4.5"

Attributed to South Staffordshire, England, Possibly Bilston, late 18th century. The “gingham finish” was principally produced in this area. By placing a piece of cambric over solid ground color and then applying white enamel this finish was achieved. The three dimensional decoration was also found in the area. It was normally created by applying several layers of enamel. In addition, the unusual heart shape has been found in other Bilston boxes.

Rare Antique Chinese Export red lacquer melon-form tea caddy with six loebed sides, three gilt dragon paw feet, gilt decoration of figures in gardens on body and hinged lid with carved “stem,” opening to a similarly shaped tin liner. Rare English Regency Tea Chest in rosewood, of sarcophagus form with a paneled lid opening to a fitted interior retaining a pair of Anglo-Irish cut glass tea caddies and sugar bowl and original felt lining under the lid, circa 1830.

Cut crystal containers were very expensive at this time, almost as expensive as silver. It is very unusual for tea chests to retain their original crystal fittings.
