Fine Filigree Work Tea Caddy, Hexagonal, with kingwood banding and with all panels and lid decorated with rolled paper floral designs with traces of color and gilding: the front panel incorporates a central print of a boy playing a flute...

Small Tumbridge Ware Trinket Box in Rosewood having a hinged lid inlayed with a display of roses depicted in micro mosaic, framed by bandings of contrasting light and dark wood and particularly well matched geometric micro mosaic.

4.35" x 2.8" x 1.5" tall

English, most likely Bilston, eighteenth century. The elongated oval shape, all over floral decoration, and the unusual brown painted panels are not infrequent characteristics of Bilston’s “gingham finish” enamel boxes, hence the Bilston attribution.

Fine cracks to enamel, and small losses on both sides and back.

Alexandria, VA had a thriving salt-glazed stoneware industry throughout most of the 19th Century. Many pieces are marked with the makers name and "ALEXa" or "DC/ALEXa". Some common makers were John Swann, B.C. Milburne, H.C. Smith and E.J.Miller (a retailer). We are always interested in purchasing examples of Alexandria stoneware.
