Zamora Alcantara was born in Honduras but spent most of his life in Mexico. He studied at the Tegucigalpa School of Arts and Crafts (now the National School of Fine Arts) under the tutelage of Alfredo Ruiz Barrera. In 1944 he emigrated to Mexico where he was in the San Carlos Academy until 1948. He also studied and taught at the Royal Academy in Rome where he learned the art of sculpture in marble. Some of Zamora Alcantara’s most important sculptures are in buildings and outdoor spaces in Mexico and Honduras. His most famous work is the Christ of the Picacho (1997) in Tegucigalpa.
