” Browne was born in Gloucester, MA, May 6, 1871. He studied at the School of Drawing and Painting, the Museum of Fine Arts, and Cowles Art School all in Boston, as well as at the Academie Julien in Paris, under Lefebvre and Robert-Fleury. He was a member of the most prestigious artists’ societies exhibiting extensively throughout his career and garnering numerous awards. Acccording to Peter Falk (Who Was Who in American Art): “(h)e was a popular Impressionist painter, active in the US and abroad. One of his paintings of Cape Cod was bought by the French Government in 1904. Browne was know to dismiss Cubism and Futurism as ‘Faddism.’” His works are held in the collections of the National Gallery, the Toledo Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others.
