Espanita Cortez joined L’Opéra Comique in 1946 as a principal dancer. She also became the dance master and choreographer. Cortez was noted as an interpreter of Spanish regional dances and flamenco. Additionally, she was a popular French actress of the 1950’s, known for Monsieur Fabre (1951), Barbe-Bleue (1951), Monsieur Taxi (1952), Manina, La Fille sans Voile (1953) (in which Brigitte Bardot made her official film debut) and La Femme et le Pantin (1959).
