Miriam Hooper was a watercolor artist specializing in landscapes and rural scenes. Born in Redhill in 1872, her father was Thomas Rowland Hooper, an architect and surveyor. She studied at the Croydon School of Art, where Charles Shanon was teaching. Her brother Vincent married Tatton Winter's daughter and that Reigate artist became her tutor and a great influence on her style.
