Exceptional bombé tea caddy in “tiger” tortoiseshell, having a pagoda shaped top opening to an interior with two lidded compartments. Circa 1800-20. ProbablyDutch.
(One back foot replaced.)

Tea Chest in the Form of a Sideboard, in mahogany and deal, having a rectangular hinged top with shaped and carved backsplash, opening to a felt lined interior with two compartments for teaspoons and a moulded crystal sugarbowl. The front with a starburst pierced central panel flanked by hinged doors with applied plinth-form decoration and opening to foil lined drawers for green and black teas.

William Smee & Sons, London, published a catalog of furniture designs in 1850 which had sideboard...

English, most likely Bilston, eighteenth century. The elongated oval shape, all over floral decoration, and the unusual brown painted panels are not infrequent characteristics of Bilston’s “gingham finish” enamel boxes, hence the Bilston attribution.

Fine cracks to enamel, and small losses on both sides and back.

Chinese bamboo cut-corner tea caddy with incised and painted decoration. Early 20th Century.

Rare English Regency Hawksbill and Greenback Tortoiseshell Tea Caddy with ivory and pewter stringing, having cut corners and a bowed front panel with pressed tortoise in concentric ovals with fan corners and central inlaid silver oval with leafage border; the bowed lid surmounted by a ball finial and the whole raised on ball feet. Circa 1800-15. (Key). Height, 6”; Length, 8”; Depth, 4.75.”

Unusual Late Chippendale Tea Chest with extensive brass decoration, having a stepped, hinged lid opening to a fitted interior and the whole raised on later bracket feet.

Most likely French, 19th century. A nineteenth-imitation of the extremely popular souvenir boxes made in Bilston at the end of the eighteenth century (see 5218-18). However, it clearly dates to the late nineteenth century. The lug and ribbed banding on the metal hinge, and the inferior quality of the painting identify this box as a nineteenth-century creation. It’s also important to note that the use of the French on the lid is not indicative of its origin, but rather another attempt at eight...

Rare American Federal tea caddy in nicely figured mahogany with three sides and stepped lid inlaid with banding and corner fan decoration; rectangular, with shaped skirt and French bracket feet and divided interior. Exceptional Antique Eglomise Lacemakers Box on later Stand; rectangular with lid and sides with gilt decoration against a white ground and the lid with a painted scene of a thatched farmhouse, opening to fitted interior with removable tray and lacemakers spindle/roller. 19th Century (minor paint losses)

Most likely French, 19th century, snuff/pill box, However, it clearly dates to the late nineteenth century. The lug and ribbed banding on the metal hinge, as well as the loose hand-painted nature of the lid identify this box as a nineteenth century creation.

Very good condition. Some loss to interior enamel and on the underside.

Bagatelle was a billiards-derived indoor table game, the object of which was to get a number of balls past wooden pins into holes that are guarded by wooden pegs; penalties were incurred if the pegs are knocked over.
